Ancient Origins
- The Sacred Maya calendar known as the Tzolkin (Cholq’ij), is one of many Mayan calendars that measure time periods of varying lengths. It is the oldest calendar cycle known in Mesoamerica and is thought to date back to at least 600BC.
- This Sacred Count of 260 days is still followed by the Maya communities of the Highlands Guatemala and Chiapas. It is used for both practical and ceremonial purposes, relative to their culture, their lands, history and religion.
- The Maya were, and still are, accomplished observers of astronomical cycles and natural rhythms. Many Temples and Pyramids throughout Central America also display their mastery and knowledge of this 13:20 ratio. (Proportion - Divine Proportion)
- The Tzolkin combines 20 named days with 13 numbers that, when multiplied, amount to 260 days. The length of 260 days corresponds to many ‘celestial’ cycles as well as the gestational period of humans.
- Each of the 20 day names appears 13 times after which the 260 day cycle is both complete and begins again. Guatemalan Day Keepers (initiated keepers of the Scared Count) say that time moves through the calendar like a serpent.
Contemporary Application
- In 1992 Jose Arguelles and his wife Llyodine presented a modern universal application of the Tzolkin 13:20 ratio. This calendar, known as the Dreamspell, is not a traditional Mayan calendar, it is intended for all people of all cultures.
- Jose Arguelles dedicated his life to exploring the calendars, prophecies cosmology and mathematics of the ancient Mayan culture and the Dreamspell is a synthesis of these ancient teachings and new revelations.
- The essential message of Jose Arguelles is that the root cause of dis harmonic evolution is disconnection from natural time cycles and nature and that by using a nature based calendar, there is a profound possibility of re-aligning our human culture into harmony with the biosphere.
- When Spanish arrived during the 16th century, much of the ancient wisdom recorded by the Mayan civilisations was burned; codices, technical manuals and volumes of information recorded over many years, went up in flames.
- In 1952, the Tomb of Pacal Votan, was uncovered at the base of The Temple of Inscriptions, in Palenque, Mexico. This Temple, this Tomb, in particular, was the source of inspiration and foundation, for much of the extensive body of work Jose Arguelles gifted humanity.

The Tzolkin is ORDER.
The Tzolkin is The Blueprint of All Creation….including every body :)
Its’ language, number, is Universal.
The Order of number is CONSTANT.
The Order of number is ABSOLUTE.
The numbers of the Tzolkin are The Divine Proportion of the catalytic energy of Creation.
A proportional ratio, ‘a degree’, rather than a quantitive ‘thing’…… Divine Proportion.

There are two things that ‘matter’ on this website;
The awareness of the 4 numbers per Kin number and the practice of S5.
The four numbers are the foundation of harmony.
These 4 numbers per kin ( what each number on the Tzolkin is referred to as ) have been forgotten.
Perhaps consider each square of the Tzolkin as a box, and to open the lid is to see inside....and there within is that which is unseen from the outside.
Or maybe even a ballon.....without the air inside, it could never float across the sky...
These numbers are important.
From them emerge the 100 currently unseen numbers/degrees which allow for the 360 degree path of the astrological wheel and facilitate a way of reconnecting with the Order Above....
as above, so below..... the human being as a mirror of the Divine Order above.
Everything evolves, including our perception of the Tzolkin.
Awareness and a participatory presence with them does not negate or judge any previous or current ways,
it only expands,
not only perception of the Tzolkin,
Absolutely Everything.
